Genmaicha is one of traditional Japanese tea varieties made from Bancha green tea leaves mixed with popcorn and roasted brown rice. The latter give the tea a certain aroma and a unique nutty rice flavor, at the same time lightening up the sharp grassy taste of Bancha green tea. Genmaicha tea is colloquially known as ‘popcorn tea’.
The tea can be drunk before or after meals. Genmaicha contains less caffeine, compared to other brands of green tea.
